Icebergs float!

Yesterday in science we started an investigation of why icebergs float.  We made our ‘icebergs’ yesterday.  First we measured how much the icebergs weighed before they were frozen.  Today we will reweigh them to see how it compares.  We are also learning how to write up an investigation with a question, prediction, materials, procedure, observations, and conclusion.

In reading today we worked on reading for the specific purpose of answering questions.  We used our penguin articles.  We also worked on writing our answers in complete sentences.  Homework is  to read and record the time on the blue reading log.  Remember the minimum for the week is a total of 60 minutes.

In writing we talked about spelling patterns for long and short vowels. We also wrote on a topic of our choosing and shared our ideas.

In math we talked about patterns for the tens facts, and later in the afternoon we talked about a really cool addition strategy using a number line.  Have your child show you!  Homework is a new whole sheet of addition practice, plus the next row on the two other sheets.

We have computers today.  We have been using our social studies time to do some additonal math review and will continue to do so for the next week or so.
