Mrs. Huffman did individual reading testing today.

It really helps to get to read one-on-one with the students.  I get lots of good information.

Today in class we started off by finishing our KWL charts about penguins. The past few days we have been researching Emperor penguins, so today we summarized what we learned about them! In reading, we also learned how to use a table of contents. Students were able to identify where to find specific chapters and find their page numbers.

In writing, we did D.O.L (Daily Oral Language) where the students had to find the mistakes from a sentence and correct them. We also continued writing a story about our own topics and shared them as a whole class.

In math, we did CBM’s (Classroom Based Measurements), which are used to give information on where your child is in math. It is like a mini-math exam. In math, we also corrected our 3rd homework sheet and two more sections from our other worksheets. Students received the 4th homework sheet and are required to finish the rest of the other two sheets, which are due tomorrow. We will also have a math homework test tomorrow in class. Continuing with math, we also worked on addition strategies using doubles.

In science, we learned about ocean water and made some predictions on how we can prove that there is salt in ocean water. We took our ocean water and placed it into the window sill to observe. Our class predicted the ocean water would evaporate leaving salt behind, so after the three-day weekend we will have to observe and see if our prediction is correct.

Today was an overall great day!
