We started researching different kinds of penguins today.

Students are working in teams and taking notes of what they are learning. Later they will be sharing what they learn with the rest of the class.  Reading homework is the usual outside of class reading that is recorded on the blue reading logs.

The Presidental Address to students covered how students control a lot of their own success.  He talked to students about setting goals, working hard, asking for help, and learning from failure.  He encouraged students to not give up and give school their best effort.

In writing today students continued to work on a piece of writing of their choosing. Students then shared.  We also talked about different ways to spell the long o sound.

In science the students got to see the evidence of salt in the pans of ocean water.  The water had indeed evaporated over the weekend, and salt crystals were left.  We also got ready to do our blubber experiment.  Tomorrow’s the day we stick our hands in ice water, then blubber and back into the ice to see if the blubber helps keep our hand warm.  We are excited to find out!

In math today we worked on strategies for the 5 multiplication facts, and also practiced our adding on strategies for addition, using number lines.  Homework is the 3 sheets:  one full one due tomorrow, and one row on the colored and addtional white sheet.  We did Mondays’ rows in class.
