    Today you got to enjoy your first yellow slip party (or not)!  Hopefully it will give you even more incentive not to get yellow slips in the future!! In Math today you presented your projects if they were done.  Monday is the last day to present.  You also put together your Ch. 2 packet.  It needs to be SIGNED and returned on Monday.  Finally you did MA1 - the Quick Quiz for Ch. 3.     Tomorrow is your first yellow slip party - to celebrate all of you who have not interrupted the learning time of others!!  You can bring treats to enjoy during the movie. In Science today we wrapped up Investigation 3 part b - the acid test. In Math you took the unit 1 test.  We will compile your point charts tomorrow after you present your survey or log project. In Math you took the Ch. 2 test.  Fix MA13 if you need to :-) In Reading we looked at conflict and the different types you'll find in literature.  You made a journal entry highlighting the conflicts you found in the novel you're reading.   • Testing Citrus Fruits

    In Science today we tested four citrus fruits for the presence of acid.  You recorded the carbon dioxide levels on the Acid Test page in your Science Notebook.   • Investigating Acids

    Today in Science we looked at a 50-50 mix of vinegar and water to see how much carbon dioxide was produced.  We've determined that we can use baking soda as an indicator of acid being present in foods, and that the amount of gas produced tells us something about the concentration of the acid.  We will test more foods tomorrow. In Math, Mrs. VanderMay taught you a lesson on integers.  Your assignment was MA11 - Practice worksheet 2-9. In Reading we discussed the questions from The Gold Cadillac and you did the Scholastic News about the Great Depression.  We'll correct your answer sheets tomorrow. Book orders are due Thursday....   • Testing Vinegar - An Acid

    In Science today we combined vinegar and baking soda in a reaction bottle to measure the amount of carbon dioxide produced.  We will work with other acids next week. In Math today we discussed the appropriate type of graph to use in different situations.  Your assignment is a long term one.  By next Friday you need to complete MA10 p. 119-120 Activity 1 or 2.  Gather data, complete an appropriate display, and analyze the data using the questions for that activity.  Some of you also want to fix MA9.     Explain that title to your parents and receive extra coupons tomorrow! In Science today we wrapped up Investigation 2 - our work with sugar.  Remember to complete your What I learned, what I think, what I wonder.... section of your notebook.  You also had two things to do at home tonight:  1) look at Nutrition Fact labels on foods around your house and see home many you have with (and without) corn syrup or high-fructose corn syrup as ingredients; 2) you have an opportunity to earn extra credit by doing the Home-School Connection paper and writing up what happened. In Math we worked with median, mode, and range.  Your assignment was MA9 p. 111-113 #6-15 and ALL the spiral review on p. 113. In Reading get your home record sheet signed.  We finished reading The Gold Cadillac today and you made several journal entries about it. GET YOUR GRADES SIGNED TONIGHT!     You brought in a variety of foods to test for sugar today in Science.  Tomorrow we'll analyze the results. In Math we worked with "what mean means" (I couldn't resist!).  Your assignment was MA8 p. 104-105 #6-16 and the whole spiral review. In Reading we listened to the first part of the novella The Gold Cadillac. Fixing papers has been extended until Friday because, even though the marking period ends Friday, we have a couple extra days to get first quarter grades turned into the office due to all the resent absences....     In Science tomorrow we will be testing any foods you bring in (remember we only need 3 grams to test and that's not much!).  Today we gathered data and wrote the conclusion for SC2b. In Math you took the MA7 mid-chapter 2 quiz on p. 101.  Your only homework is to fix any papers you can.     In Science today we tested two cereals per group to measure the amount of carbon dioxide the yeast produced as it metabolized the sugar in the cereal.  Tomorrow we will analyze the results. In Math today you worked with line plots.  Your assignment was MA6 p. 98-100 #5-18 and the WHOLE spiral review. In Reading we answered questions in your journal about the short story we read Friday, La Bamba.  Remember your book review and passed quiz are due this Friday!!
